Registering with the Embassy

Whether you are traveling abroad for business, pleasure, or an educational adventure, it’s worth your while to take a few minutes and register with the U.S. State Department’s “Smart Traveler Enrollment Program” or STEP.

Essentially, the program lets the embassy responsible for the area(s) you will visit know that you are in-country. So, let’s say that there’s a terrible storm, political upheaval, or some type of attack, Embassy staff will know that you need to be accounted for, will send information about the situation to you, and will be able to reach you if there is a family emergency back home. It’s a great and passive way to be connected to the Embassy for the duration of your travel.

The registration is FREE, quick and simple. No need to fear that anyone from the Embassy is going to spam you with unnecessary info or reach out to check up on you. Big Brother is not watching. However, fellow Americans will be available if something comes up – and will keep you in the loop.

Want to register? Use this link and follow the prompts.

Travel Safe!
